The idea of a paleo diet was first introduced in 1975, but it took until 2012 for it to really take off. The basic premise is that humans have evolved to eat and digest certain foods the best over the past 200,000 years, and that we should be eating those foods. What are they? Well, in a nutshell:
- meat, poultry, and seafood
- fruit, especially wild ones (and high-sugar fruits are generally avoided)
- nuts & seeds
- healthy fats
The diet avoids things like dairy, grains, processed foods, sugars, and seed oils.
