Beyoncé knocks it out of the park every time she shares a new album with the world, and she truly outdid herself with Cowboy Carter. Her latest record easily debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, setting several major records in its wake.

Cowboy Carter is Beyoncé’s eighth solo studio album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and it soared to the top with 407,000 equivalent album units. It earned the largest week for an album in 2024 and the biggest streaming week of Beyoncé’s career, with 300.41 million official streams, equaling 232,000 SEA units.

Pure album sales amounted to 168,000 units, helping Cowboy Carter soar to the top of the Billboard’s Album Sales chart. It also topped Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, making history as the first album by a female Black artist to do so.

Cowboy Carter hit the shelves on March 29, and its release was preceded by singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages”. Beyoncé envisioned it as the second installment of a trilogy that also features Renaissance, which sees her exploring the Black roots of country music. Cowboy Carter features several A-list collaborations, with the likes of Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus, Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, and Post Malone.

Raye put her heart and soul into her debut album My 21st Century Blues, and she’s finally reaping the fruits of her labor! The BRIT Awards returned to London’s The O2 Arena on Saturday night, and Raye became the most decorated artist in a single year with six awards.

Raye made the BRIT Awards history long before the actual ceremony took place, and scored a record-breaking seven nods, most by an artist in a single year. She swept the ceremony with six wins, only losing the best pop act award for Dua Lipa.

Raye’s hard work on her debut album My 21st Century Blues finally paid off, after this LP won the British album of the year trophy, beating The Ballad of Darren by Blur, Beautiful and Brutal Yard by J Hus, No Thank You by Little Simzand Heavy Heavy by Young Fathers.

To make the whole thing even better, Raye also won additional two main awards – the British artist of the year and the song of the year with “Escapism” ft. 070 Shake. She was also named the best R&B act, best new artist, and songwriter of the year, bringing her total to record-breaking six awards.

The 2024 BRIT Awards were co-hosted by Clara Amfo, Maya Jama, and Roman Kemp on March 2 from The O2 Arena in London.

After a lot of rumors about a potential The Fantastic Four reboot, Marvel is officially making it happen. This highly-anticipated superhero flick will hit the theatres on July 25, 2025, and we’re here to introduce you to its newly-announced, fantastic cast.

Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic

Pedro Pascal needs no special introduction because he’s one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood right now. The star of the hit shows The Mandalorian and Last of Us also appeared in films Kingsman: The Golden Circle and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and will soon be seen in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2.

Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm aka the Invisible Woman

Vanessa Kirby has been pretty busy since getting her big break for playing the young Princess Margaret on The Crown. She went on to win a Volpi Cup and receive an Oscar nod Pieces of a Woman, in addition to starring in Mission: Impossible franchise and Napoleon.

Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch

Joseph Quinn won us over as lovable metalhead Eddie Munson on the fourth season of Stranger Things. He went on to land roles in several promising blockbusters, including A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator 2, alongside Pascal.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm aka the Thing

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is fresh off winning an Emmy and Golden Globe for playing Richie Jerimovich on The Bear. His “overnight success” was decades in the making, and we’ve seen him play small roles in such films as Mona Lisa Smile, Higher Ground, and No Hard Feelings.

Taylor Swift came into this year’s Grammy Awards as one of the front-runners for album of the year, and she lived up to the hype! She won her historic fourth album of the year award with Midnights and announced its follow-up The Tortured Poets Department during music’s biggest night.

Midnights was crowned the album of the year winner at this year’s Grammys, transforming Swift into the first solo artist to win this award four times. Her acceptance speech was full of surprises, and she used it to tease the release of her next album The Tortured Poets Department, set to be released on April 19.

As for the rest of the big four categories, Miley Cyrus won the record of the year Grammy with “Flowers”, but failed to repeat her success in the song of the year field, where the trophy went to Billie Eilish for “What Was I Made For?”. Victoria Monét rounded out the list of winners with the best new artist Grammy.

It was also a big night for Phoebe Bridgers, who was the only artist to walk away with four Grammys this year, including three with Boygenius. In addition to this indie supergroup, SZA, Victoria Monét, and Killer Mike also collected three trophies each.

The 2024 Grammy Awards were held on February 4 at the Crypto.com Arena in LA, with Trevor Noah hosting the festivities for the fourth consecutive year.

Succession and The Bear entered this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards as the top contenders and managed to exceed our expectations. They were crowned as top winners on Monday night and walked away with six trophies each, followed by Netflix’s Beef with five.

Succession knocked us off our feet with its finals season, and Emmy voters were certainly paying attention. HBO’s hit satire was nominated for 14 awards and eventually won six, including outstanding drama series, best writing and directing for “Connor’s Wedding”, and acting prizes for its fantastic trio Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen.

Emmy voters also welcomed the first season of The Bear with open arms and honored it with six accolades. In addition to being named the outstanding comedy series, FX’s dramedy won three acting awards, collected by Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri. Its creator Christopher Storer won two more Emmys for writing and directing this show.

As for Netflix’s Beef, this series was named the outstanding limited or anthology series and won four more awards in the limited series field – acting awards for its leads Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, plus writing and directing trophies for its creator Lee Sung Jin.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were pushed to January 15 in the face of dual strikes in Hollywood last year, and Anthony Anderson was in charge of hosting Fox’s live show.

The Golden Globe will kick off the most exciting part of the award season this January, and the list of nominees is one for the books! Barbie topped the list of film nominations, while Succession made history in the TV field with the record-breaking nine nods.

Greta Gerwig broke countless records with Barbie, and she’s finally getting credit where credit is due. This critically acclaimed flick received nine nominations at the Golden Globe, starting with the best comedy or musical, along with Air, American Fiction, The Holdovers, May December, and Poor Things.

The race for the best drama film will be equally competitive. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is leading the way with eight nominations, but the list of contenders for the ceremony’s main award also includes Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, and The Zone of Interest.

Succession knocked it out of the park in the television category and set a new record for the most-nominated show in a single year with nine nods. It’s the front-runner for the best drama series award, in addition to scoring eight more nominations thanks to its amazing ensemble, led by Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, and Sarah Snook.

The Golden Globe Awards will return to The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on January 7, 2024, and the ceremony will air live on CBS.

The first two seasons of The Bear ate and left no crumbs, and the third course is officially on the menu! This culinary drama became a true cultural phenomenon following its premiere last year, and FX announced they’re bringing it back for another season.

The Bear follows the young chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, who decides to leave the world of fine dining behind following his brother’s suicide. He returns to his hometown of Chicago and does everything in his power to transform his family’s failing beef sandwich shop into a success story.

The ensemble cast of The Bear is led by Jeremy Allen White, while Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott, and Matty Matheson star in supporting roles. Season 2 featured several notable A-list cameos from the likes of Jon Bernthal, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter, Olivia Colman, John Mulaney, Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Gillian Jacobs.

Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, confirmed the show’s renewal and praised The Bear for “[wowing] audiences in its first season only to achieve even greater heights in season two, has become a cultural phenomenon.” He gave a shout-out to its producers Christopher Storer, Joanna Calo, and Josh Senior, and said they’ve done “a truly remarkable” job alongside the show’s brilliant cast and crew.

Beyoncé gave us one of the year’s most talked-about tours with Renaissance World Tour—and there’s more where that came from! Queen B joined forces with AMC Theaters for the exclusive concert film Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, set to premiere this December.

Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé will celebrate the impact of Beyoncé’s latest world tour, which “created a sanctuary for freedom, and shared joy, for more than 2.7 million fans”, according to its official logline.

The film will also chronicle Beyoncé’s quest to create her legacy and master her craft during this tour, which took her all around Europe and North America before ending its run in Kansas City, Missouri on October 1. In addition to becoming a global phenomenon, the Renaissance World Tour shattered records along the way, and it became the highest-grossing tour by a female artist in history.

According to Variety, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé will include both concert and behind-the-scenes footage from the singer’s latest tour, along with the music videos from the visual album Renaissance.

This film will be distributed by AMC Theaters, starting on December 1, and Beyoncé is expected to receive over 50% of the box office gross after striking an exclusive deal with AMC through her productions company Parkwood Entertainment.

The future of The Idol has been uncertain since the first season wrapped up, and we finally know what HBO has in store for this show. Sam Levinson’s divisive drama starring Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd won’t return after HBO officially announced its cancelation.

HBO released a statement thanking the show’s creators, cast, and crew for their “incredible work”, while also adding they’ve decided not to move forward with a second season “after much thought and consideration” despite the show’s strong audience response.

The Idol was created for HBO by Euphoria’s Sam Levinson, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, and Reza Fahim, and its first season proved to be pretty polarizing with critics and viewers alike. The series centers on a pop star Jocelyn (Depp), who finds herself under the spell of mysterious nightclub owner Tedros (The Weeknd) while trying to make her long-anticipated comeback.

The supporting cast of The Idol included Troye Sivan, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria. The series featured a total of five episodes and it aired on HBO back in June following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

Barbie generated more buzz than any film in recent memory, and it managed to live up to its reputation as the film of the summer. It earned a staggering $337 million on its opening, scoring the highest-grossing weekend for a female-directed film.

After being projected to gross $90–125 million domestically during its opening weekend, Barbie knocked it out of the park with a $155 million opening. It also grossed $182 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $337 million at the global box office.

This makes Barbie the highest-grossing opener of 2023 so far, breaking the record set by The Super Mario Bros Movie. This also marks the highest-grossing weekend for a female-directed film, in addition to being the largest opening for a non-sequel, non-remake, and non-superhero movie.

Barbie wasn’t the only film blowing up at the global box office this weekend. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer hit the theatres on the same day, and it was right behind Barbie with a global tally of $174 million.

Both films were involved in the global Barbenheimer phenomenon, inspired by their shared release date and dramatic differences in tone and subject matter. What started as a friendly competition, turned into a fascinating symbiosis, inspiring many moviegoers to see them both as a double feature, thus improving their box office numbers.
