“The Princess Diaries 3” is in the Works With Anne Hathaway Returning

Anne Hathaway has played many iconic characters over the years, but many people still know her as Mia Thermopolis from The Princess Diaries. She’ll return as the queen of Genovia in The Princess Diaries 3, set to be directed by Adele Lim.

After co-writing the script for Crazy Rich Asians and making her directorial debut with Joy Ride, Adele Lim is ready for the next big thing. After being a diehard fan of The Princess Diaries for years, she’s getting ready to direct the third film in this franchise, and she promised it would celebrate the story’s core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship.

Shortly after Lim was announced as a director, Hathaway took to social media to announce she’s coming back to Genovia as Mia Thermopolis. She teased her return in a video that shows her counting to the number three, while the videos from the original films play in between, and promised that the magic will continue in the third film.

Based on Meg Cabot’s hit young adult book series, The Princess Diaries and its sequel The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement chronicled Mia Thermopolis’ transformation from an awkward teen to the future queen of Genovia. This franchise also starred Julie Andrews, Héctor Elizondo, Heather Matarazzo, Mandy Moore, Caroline Goodall, Robert Schwartzman, and Chris Pine.
