The Last of Us is one of HBO’s biggest success stories in recent memory, and its next chapter is finally on the horizon. HBO dropped the first full trailer for Season 2 at SXSW, giving us a glimpse of Joel and Ellie’s next adventure while also introducing us to many brand-new characters.
The show’s second season will take place five years after the events of the first, which saw hardened survivor Joel (Pedro Pascal) trying to smuggle a teenage girl Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of a quarantine zone. We’ll be reunited with this duo in Season 2, but their relationship will be more strained than ever, and Pascal said there will be “a really interesting and heartbreaking unraveling as to why.”
The star-studded cast of Season 2 will also include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Rutina Wesley as Maria, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, Catherine O’Hara as Gail, and Gabriel Luna as Tommy.
The Last of Us is based on Naughty Dog’s hit video game of the same name, and it scored HBO’s most-watched debut season following its premiere in 2023. Its second season will premiere on April 13, with seven new episodes airing weekly on HBO.
