Madonna delivered many amazing performances during her The Celebration Tour, but none of them compares to its final concert. 1.6 million people showed up to watch the Queen of Pop perform a free concert in Brazil, which broke a major attendance record.

Madonna’s The Celebration Tour took her all around the world in the past few months, and she decided to wrap it up in style. Back in late March, she announced a free concert at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach, and set expectations high for this performance.

“The event will be her biggest gig yet, an unforgettable concert in one of the world’s most beautiful settings. The show will be free of charge as a thank you to her fans for celebrating more than four decades of her music over the course of the epic global run of the tour,” she said in an official statement.

The free concert took place on May 4 and managed to exceed everyone’s expectations. 1.6 million people showed up to watch Madonna perform her biggest hits alongside special guests Anitta and Pabllo Vittar. Copacabana Beach attracted bigger crowds in the past, most notably during its New Year’s Eve events, but Madonna’s concert still managed to make history, setting a record for the largest concert by a standalone artist.

Taylor Swift’s new albums are always worth waiting for, and she rocked our world with The Tortured Poets Department. The Post Malone collaboration “Fortnight” was released as its lead single, and its music video is one wild descent into madness.

Just like the majority of Swift’s music videos in recent years, this one was directed by the singer herself, and she described it as the perfect visual representation of the entire album.

“When I was writing the ‘Fortnight’ music video, I wanted to show you the worlds I saw in my head that served as the backdrop for making this music. Pretty much everything in it is a metaphor or a reference to one corner of the album or another,” she wrote on Instagram.

Swift is joined by Post Malone, who plays her love interest, a co-worker at a dystopian office where they use old-fashioned typewriters, and one of the doctors at the insane asylum where Swift is held against her will. Dead Poets Society co-stars Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles also make a cameo as two of the doctors doing experiments on Swift.

The “Fortnight” music video accompanied the release of Swift’s new album The Tortured Poets Department on April 19. It’s one of 16 songs featured on its standard edition, but Swift also released an additional 15 tracks as a part of its companion piece The Anthology.

Beyoncé knocks it out of the park every time she shares a new album with the world, and she truly outdid herself with Cowboy Carter. Her latest record easily debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, setting several major records in its wake.

Cowboy Carter is Beyoncé’s eighth solo studio album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and it soared to the top with 407,000 equivalent album units. It earned the largest week for an album in 2024 and the biggest streaming week of Beyoncé’s career, with 300.41 million official streams, equaling 232,000 SEA units.

Pure album sales amounted to 168,000 units, helping Cowboy Carter soar to the top of the Billboard’s Album Sales chart. It also topped Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, making history as the first album by a female Black artist to do so.

Cowboy Carter hit the shelves on March 29, and its release was preceded by singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages”. Beyoncé envisioned it as the second installment of a trilogy that also features Renaissance, which sees her exploring the Black roots of country music. Cowboy Carter features several A-list collaborations, with the likes of Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus, Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, and Post Malone.

Ariana Grande knocked it out of the park with her latest album Eternal Sunshine, and its chart domination is finally upon us. Grande’s latest LP conquered the Billboard 200 chart during its debut week, while its latest single “We Can’t Be Friends” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Eternal Sunshine hit the shelves on March 8 and managed to earn 227,000 equivalent album units during its debut week, including 77,000 in album sales. This makes it Grande’s sixth album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with the largest week for any album in 2024 thus far.

As for the Hot 100 chart, Grande is also leading the way with her latest single “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”. This song accompanied the release of Eternal Sunshine and managed to earn 32.6 million streams, 4.6 million radio airplay audience impressions, and 9,000 in sales during its debut week.

“We Can’t Be Friends” is a true record-breaker for Grande because it marks her seventh No. 1 Hot 100 debut, helping her break Taylor Swift’s record for most chart-topping debuts among female artists.

It also helped her become the only artist in history to have multiple Hot 100 chart-topping debuts from two different albums, since she also hit No. 1 with the lead single “Yes, And?” back in January.

It was just a matter of time before The Beatless got the high-profile biopic they deserved, and Sam Mendes is making it happen! The Oscar-winning filmmaker is developing not one, but four theatrical films inspired by each member of the record-breaking British band.

Mendes’ films aim to “tell the astonishing story of the greatest band in history”, from their foundation to their breakup in 1970. This project is a historic first for the band because Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison all agreed to give full life story and music rights to Mendes.

Mendes joined forces with Sony Pictures Entertainment to bring this project to life, and they’re planning to release all four films in 2027. The studio described its release strategy as “innovative and groundbreaking”, but they’re yet to share the exact details.

“Pairing [Mendes’] premiere filmmaking team, with the music and the stories of four young men who changed the world, will rock audiences all over the globe. We are deeply grateful to all parties and look forward ourselves to breaking some rules with Sam’s uniquely artistic vision,” said Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group’s CEO Tom Rothman.

The Beatless made music together for a single decade between 1960 and 1970, but that didn’t stop them from going down in history as one of the most influential rock bands of all time. They shared several unreleased tracks following their breakup, including last year’s “Now and Then”.

Usher’s dream of headlining the Super Bowl halftime show finally came true on Sunday night, and he didn’t do it all alone. The R&B superstar delivered a show to remember during the Big Game, and he was joined by several special guests, including Alicia Keys.

The NFL bosses announced that Usher would be headlining the halftime show back in September, and he couldn’t wait to cross this dream off of his bucket list. He delivered another nostalgic halftime show performance, following in the footsteps of Rihanna, and hip-hop stars Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar.

Usher’s performance started off amazing, with “My Way” serving as an intro, and only got better from that point on. The crowd went wild once Alicia Keys joined him on stage, with amazing new takes of “If I Ain’t Got You” and “My Boo”.

Keys wasn’t the only special guest joining Usher on Sunday night, and she was soon followed H.E.R. and will.i.am. Lil Jon and Ludacris were there for the grand finale and helped Usher hypnotize the crowd with the epic rendition of his smash hit “Yeah!”

Usher headlined Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada on February 11, which saw the Kansas City Chiefs win their second consecutive Super Bowl title.

Most artists use singles to hype up the fans for the release of their new music, but Ariana Grande opted for a different approach with Eternal Sunshine. The Grammy winner isn’t planning to release any more new singles from her next album before it hits the shelves in March.

Grande gave us a taste of Eternal Sunshine with the lead single “Yes, And?”, which she dropped on January 12. This song became an instant hit, debuting atop the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her sixth No. 1 debut in the US and the eighth single to top the chart overall.

Grande’s fans have been patiently awaiting its follow-up ever since, but they’ll have to wait a little bit longer. The singer recently took to social media to reveal she’s not planning to drop any more singles before Eternal Sunshine hits the shelves on March 8.

“As hard as it is to resist the urge to share another song or single with you ASAP, I would really love for you to experience the album in full this time… Waiting a little longer for you to be able to listen fully through first really is my ideal way for you all to experience this body of work,” explained Grande in a recent Instagram story.

Taylor Swift came into this year’s Grammy Awards as one of the front-runners for album of the year, and she lived up to the hype! She won her historic fourth album of the year award with Midnights and announced its follow-up The Tortured Poets Department during music’s biggest night.

Midnights was crowned the album of the year winner at this year’s Grammys, transforming Swift into the first solo artist to win this award four times. Her acceptance speech was full of surprises, and she used it to tease the release of her next album The Tortured Poets Department, set to be released on April 19.

As for the rest of the big four categories, Miley Cyrus won the record of the year Grammy with “Flowers”, but failed to repeat her success in the song of the year field, where the trophy went to Billie Eilish for “What Was I Made For?”. Victoria Monét rounded out the list of winners with the best new artist Grammy.

It was also a big night for Phoebe Bridgers, who was the only artist to walk away with four Grammys this year, including three with Boygenius. In addition to this indie supergroup, SZA, Victoria Monét, and Killer Mike also collected three trophies each.

Just when we thought that award season was long behind us, the iHeartRadio Music Awards returned to LA to celebrate the best music of the past year on Monday night. Taylor Swift led the way with six wins, but she was closely followed by SZA, who collected the coveted song of the year award.

2023 was definitely the year of Taylor Swift, so it wasn’t a shocker to see her named artist of the year at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, beating the likes of SZA, Drake, Miley Cyrus, and Olivia Rodrigo, among others.

She came into the night with a total of nine nods and eventually collected six awards, including pop artist of the year, best lyrics for “Is It Over Now?”, TikTok bop of the year for “Cruel Summer”, plus tour of the year and favorite tour style for The Eras Tour.

SZA was also one of the ceremony’s top winners with four accolades, starting with the song of the year for her chart-topping hit “Kill Bill”. She was also named the R&B artist of the year, in addition to winning R&B album of the year for SOS and R&B song of the year for “Snooze”.

Ludacris hosted this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards, which took place on April 1 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The 2024 Grammy Awards were held on February 4 at the Crypto.com Arena in LA, with Trevor Noah hosting the festivities for the fourth consecutive year.
