Olivia Rodrigo Sinks Her Teeth Into a New Era With Eerie New Single “Vampire”

Olivia Rodrigo’s rise to prominence with her debut album Sour was a joy to watch, and she’s finally ready to sink her teeth into her next era. The music video for her comeback single “Vampire” is here, and it sees the Grammy winner taking a walk on the dark side.

Directed by her frequent collaborator Petra Collins, the “Vampire” music video managed to defy expectations and it didn’t give us a classic vampire-themed visual. After her performance at an awards show goes sideways, Rodrigo escapes into the night covered in blood, while singing about bloodsuckers bleeding her dry and sucking out her energy.

In an interview with Billboard, the singer said it was very therapeutic to write this song because it helped her cope with the anger and regret that come with being used.

“it’s kind of an angry song, and I think I have a lot of trouble expressing feelings like anger and regret, those are particularly tough ones for me to express. I go to songwriting to get those feelings out that aren’t super comfortable to express in everyday life,” said Rodrigo.

“Vampire” is her first single in almost two years, and it will be a part of her upcoming album Guts, which is scheduled to be released on September 8.
