“Mufasa: The Lion King” Trailer Takes Us Back to the Past

Disney has given us one of its most successful live-action remakes with The Lion King, and they’re not letting go of this franchise anytime soon. Mufasa: The Lion King is coming to theatres just in time for Christmas, and Disney gave us a taste of things to come with a nostalgic first trailer.

The new promo clip takes us back to the past and chronicles the origin story of Simba’s father Mufasa. He’s an orphaned cub at the very start of the film, but things start looking up after he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, who just happens to be the heir to a royal bloodline.

This chance encounter changes the course of Mufasa’s life, sending him on an expansive journey with an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny and working together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.

Aaron Pierre will lead the voice cast as Mufasa, and he’ll be joined by a group of new and familiar faces. Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Kani, and Beyoncé will reprise their roles from the 2019 remake of The Lion King, and they’ll be joined by Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, and Blue Ivy Carter in her feature film debut.

Mufasa: The Lion King will be a part of Disney’s holiday slate, and it’s hitting the theatres on December 20.
