Everything Everywhere All At Once entered this year’s Academy Awards as the clear front-runner, and it managed to live up to the hype. The absurdist sci-fi epic walked away with a total of seven Oscars, including the biggest award of the night—best picture.
Everything Everywhere entered the ceremony with a total of eleven nominations in ten categories, and eventually walked away with seven Oscars—most for any film since Slumdog Millionaire won eight back in 2009.
The directing duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert collected three trophies for their work on this film—best picture alongside Jonathan Wang, best director, and best original screenplay.
Everything Everywhere was the biggest winner of the night in the acting categories, as well, with Michelle Yeoh making history as the first Asian woman to win best actress. Her co-stars Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis dominated the supporting categories, while Brendan Fraser won the Oscar for best actor for The Whale.
With Everything Everywhere and The Whale, A24 was definitely the biggest winner of the night, but Netflix also had a reason to celebrate. The streamer’s anti-war epic All Quiet on the Western Front collected four trophies, including best international feature film, original score, production design, and cinematography.
The 95th Academy Awards took place on March 12 at LA’s Dolby Theatre, and Jimmy Kimmel was in charge of hosting the show for the third time.
