Billy Butcher and Homelander embarked on quite an adventure since The Boys first premiered on Amazon Prime Video, and their epic journey will soon be over. The Boys creator Eric Kripke said he’s ready to bring this series to “a gory, epic, emotional climax” after five seasons.
About a month after Prime Video announced they’re renewing The Boys for Season 5, Kripke revealed this will also be its grand finale. He claims this was the plan all along, but he waited for Amazon to approve his decision before sharing the news with the world.
In a conversation with Variety, Kripke said he knew that Season 5 would be the last for a while, and he’s glad to finally get the news out there so that fans could go into the upcoming Season 4 with the right mindset.
“I think it puts Season 4 in the right context. It’s weird for this show to say, but it’s a slightly more introspective season… I just wanted people to understand where it fits into the larger piece so that they kind of get what this season is supposed to be,” Kripke explained.
The Boys will return for its fourth season on June 13, with Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, and Karen Fukuhara in the lead roles.
