Obviously, she wasn’t born with the name “Lady Gaga.” Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (try saying that 3x fast!) is her real name. She changed her name in the late 2000s and the reason is simply awesome. Being a massive Queen fan and in love with their song “Radio Ga-Ga” she took inspiration from artists like Elton John and Freddy Mercury. Lady Gaga was born.
Akon Discovered Her
R&B artist Akon was impressed with Lady Gaga when he attended her alternative burlesque show which was next to Lady Starlight. Her vocals impressed Akon so much that he signed her to Kon Live, his label. This all happened in 2007 when she was still a free agent, but shortly after other offers from other labels popped up given how famous she had become. Even though she left Kon Live later on, Akon jokes around that he can retire early now due to her early success.
Britney Spears Was Supposed To Sing “Telephone”
“Telephone” is one of Lady Gaga’s most memorable and loved singles. She collaborated with Beyoncé, and even though the two sang “Telephone” together, it was originally not meant for her to sing. She actually wrote the song for Britney Spears. Her album Circus was meant to have the song, but Spears rejected it, and since Gaga didn’t want the song to be wasted, she released it with Beyoncé, and the rest is history.
