House of the Dragon finally came back with a roar for its second season, and the Dance of the Dragons is far from over. The Blacks and the Greens will keep fighting for their place on the Iron Throne after HBO renewed the hit epic fantasy drama for its third season.
HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi announced the show’s renewal in an official statement and said they could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen. She praised co-creators George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal and their amazing cast and crew for putting dragon-sized effort into the phenomenal Season 2.
Set 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, House of the Dragon chronicles the rise and fall of her family. They once ruled the Seven Kingdoms with an iron fist, but it all came crashing down with the Dance of the Dragons, the harrowing war of succession that led to their downfall.
House of the Dragon featured a star-studded ensemble cast, which includes Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Ewan Mitchell.
They’re all back for the show’s eight-episode second season, which premiered on HBO on June 16.
