Christopher Nolan’s projects are always surrounded by an air of secrecy, but we finally know what to expect from his next blockbuster. According to Universal Pictures, the Oscar-winning director is gearing up to bring his version of Homer’s ancient Greek epic The Odyssey to theaters around the world.

Nolan has been plotting his mystery project for quite some time, and rumor had it its plot would involve everything from vampires to helicopter pilots. After weeks of speculations, Universal Pictures finally shared the first official statement about this project, revealing it’s “a mythic action epic shot across the world”, based on Homer’s foundational saga The Odyssey.

This Greek epic chronicles the perilous journey of the Greek hero Odysseus, as he tries to return to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus after the Trojan War. His journey took him from Troy to Ithaca over the course of a decade, bringing him face to face with such mythological characters as the Cyclops, Circe, and the Sirens.

Nolan managed to round out an impressive cast for his next project, which includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron. His version of The Odyssey will be released on July 17, 2026 by Universal, and he’ll use a brand-new IMAX technology to bring it to life.
