“A Minecraft Movie” Tops the Box Office With an Epic $301 Million Opening

Based on the best-selling video game of all time, A Minecraft Movie was always destined for greatness, and it managed to live up to the hype during its opening weekend. The long-awaited video game adaptation made $301 million globally during its opening weekend and set several domestic box office records.

A Minecraft Movie earned $301 million worldwide after just a few days in theaters, including $157 million in North America alone. This marks the biggest domestic opening for a film, surpassing Captain America: Brave New World with $88 million. It also set a new record for the highest-grossing domestic opening for a movie based on a video game, previously held by The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Based on Mojang Studios’ hit video game that sold over 300 million copies worldwide, A Minecraft Movie takes us to a bizarre, cubic world that thrives on imagination. It follows the adventures of two misfits trying to crack its mysteries with the help of an expert crafter named Steve in an attempt to find their way back home.

Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen lead the cast of this film, with Rachel House, Jemaine Clement, Jared Hess, and Matt Berry joining them in supporting roles.
