Wild New Teaser for “The Idol” Explores the Dark Side of the Music Industry

From Swarm to Daisy Jones & The Six, TV shows about the dark side of the music industry are all the rage right now, and there’s another one coming our way this spring. The new teaser trailer for HBO’s controversial musical drama The Idol is here, and it reveals the show’s release date.

The Idol stars Lily-Rose Depp as an aspiring pop singer Jocelyn, whose plans to become the biggest pop star in America are derailed after she experiences a nervous breakdown in the middle of a tour.

Jocelyn embarks on a quest to reclaim her power after meeting a mysterious modern cult leader Tedros (The Weeknd), but will their relationship take her to glorious new heights or the deepest and darkest depths of her soul?

In addition to playing one of the lead roles, The Weeknd co-created The Idol for HBO alongside his longtime collaborator Reza Fahim and Euphoria’s Sam Levinson, who directed all episodes.

The Idol also stars Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Kim, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, and Hank Azaria. It will arrive at HBO on June 4, following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month.
