Henry Cavill has been playing Geralt of Rivia on The Witcher since the show’s inception, but he’s ready to move on from this role. Following Netflix’s early renewal for Season 4, Cavill exited the series, handing over the reins to Liam Hemsworth.
Demanding schedule and overseas production reportedly had a role to play in Cavill’s exit, but it eventually all came down to his decision to return as Superman in the DCU. He described his journey as Geralt as “filled with both monsters and adventures” and wished Hemsworth the best of luck taking up the mantle of the White Wolf.
The Hunger Games star will become Geralt of Rivia in Season 4, and he couldn’t be more excited to step into The Witcher world.
“As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure,” said Hemsworth in a statement.
Cavill will bid farewell in Season 3 of The Witcher, set to premiere on Netflix next year. The series is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series of the same name, and it centers on three formidable characters and their intervened destinies in the vast world of The Continent, inhabited by humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters.
