#5 Ginger May Drastically Lower Blood Sugars and Improve Heart Disease Risk Factors

Scientists are excited about discovering the possible link between ginger and reduced rates of diabetes.

A recent study found that in patients with type 2 diabetes, 2 grams of ginger daily lowered their blood sugar (fasting levels) by 12%. Dramatic improvements in HbA1c, which is a marker for long-term blood sugar levels) were also seen, with a 10% reduction over a period of 12 weeks. The study was only done with 41 patients, so more work needs to be done.

There was also a 28% reduction in the ApoB/ApoA-I ratio, and a 23% reduction in markers for oxidized lipoproteins. These are both major risk factors for heart disease.

While the results are certainly impressive, more studies need to be done before scientists and medical professionals know which route to go.
