The HFPA is gearing up for a major comeback this winter, and they kicked things off by unveiling the list of Golden Globe nominations. The first major ceremony of the awards season will return in January, and The Banshees of Inisherin is leading the list of nominees with a total of eight nods.
The Banshees of Inisherin marks the reunion between Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, who previously co-starred in Martin McDonagh’s directorial debut In Bruges. Both actors received Golden Globe nods for their performances in this film, along with their co-stars Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan.
McDonagh himself is in the running in several categories, including best director and screenwriter. He’ll also get the chance to pick up the Golden Globe for the best motion picture – comedy or musical if The Banshees of Inisherin manages to defeat the likes of Everything Everywhere All at Once and Babylon, nominated for six and five awards, respectively.
The TV field is just as crowded, with Abbott Elementary leading the way with a total of five nods in the comedy categories. The Crown is the top contender in the drama field with four nods, while Pam & Tommy, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and The White Lotus received the same number of nominations in the limited series categories.
The Golden Globe Awards will air live on NBC on January 10, 2023, with Jerrod Carmichael hosting the ceremony.
