Turmeric. You may enjoy it in many foods, from curries to fragrant rices, but did you know that this deep orange-yellow root has some amazing health benefits, too? From healing inflammation to keeping your skin glowing, it seems like there’s nothing this plant can’t do.


After hearing many of my friends suggest the healing benefits of turmeric, I decided to dig a little deeper and find out more. Turns out that it’s been used for years in Ayurvedic medicine, and that Western medicine is starting to study all its healing powers.

We will discuss some of our favorite benefits and uses in this post, but first, a quick science lesson. Turmeric has many active properties that give it its nutritional value. The one that most researchers are focusing on is called curcumin, and it is believed to have many benefits. Turmeric root itself only contains about 3% curcumin, so researchers will suggest taking turmeric pills for full benefits.
