Once upon a time, things were different. Buying soap or canned tomatoes meant that you were simply buying those products. All the ingredients listed were recognizable.
Or, you made things in your own house, and knew exactly what went into everything you used. These days, almost all packaged products contain a laundry list of ingredients, some recognizable, some not. Many people are understandably nervous about putting these unknown, possibly toxic products into their bodies, and try to make their own.
Aside from being healthier, making your own products saves a ton of money. Plus, you get to control what you make, how much of it, and what it looks and feels like! Check out some of our favorite suggestions for homemade goods. We have food ideas, cleaning suggestions, and more!
With summer coming up quickly, it’s time to think about those pesky mosquitoes. They’re everywhere, ruining your picnics and disturbing your sleep. Keep them at bay with a homemade bug repellent! Simply mix:
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1/8 cup shea butter
- 4 teaspoons beeswax (in granule form)
- A mixture of essential oils – about 40 drops. We recommend a mixture of citronella, rosemary, cedarwood, lemongrass, eucalyptus, and tea tree, all of which a re great at repelling mosquitoes. Citronella should be the base scent.
Melt the first three ingredients on a double boiler, then stir in the essential oils. Pour into jars and dab some on you for a natural mosquito repellent!
